Circle Time: Tummy Time
PlanToys Circle Time: Tummy Time
Welcome to PlanToys Circle Time! In this session, we're discussing the importance of tummy time for babies, and what you can do to enhance their experience.
Muscle-Strengthening
When babies are born they have yet to gain the strength to perform some of the most basic bodily functions, such as holding up their necks. Tummy time is not only a bonding experience but a way for growing babies to exercise their muscles and discover what they are capable of.
It's suggested to not engage in tummy time if the baby is not fully alert, or has just finished eating. Younger babies can engage in tummy time every day for a few minutes. As they grow and show improved muscle development, the time should increase.
Introduction To Play
Tummy time is also the best scenario to introduce play! Incorporate cause-and-effect age-appropriate toys: toys that can roll, crinkle, or jingle. Toys such as this not only help with tummy time but allows babies to develop auditory skills and gain an interest in their surroundings.

Bonding
Consider placing a baby on your chest for a more engaging session. This can be an ideal scenario for fussy babies who are not showing an interest in tummy time.
